Innovative water rescue system for beaches or others bodies of water

A young Spanish company specialized in the research and development of new innovative products has developed a worldwide patented new water rescue system that significantly increases the chances of saving the life of any person at risk of drowning. This system can be used on beaches or in others bodies of water (i.e. rivers, lakes, etc). The company is currently facing the internationalization stage and it offers license or distribution services agreements.

Concerning to the new concept of "Smart Beach" the rescue system devices can provide very useful information about each rescue such as the date and the time, the total duration of the operation, the distance from the person at risk of drowning to the shore, etc. Moreover, the rescue system devices can be connected to others such as: - Intelligent buoys to provide information about the temperature of the water, the currents, etc., - Weather stations to provide information about the quality of the air, the pollution level, the speed of the wind, etc, - Sensors placed on beaches or in other bodies of water to provide information about the number of people, - Smart bracelets for elderly, children or handicapped people to specifically prevent them to the risk of drowning, to find lost children, etc., - Sensors in pipelines to warn about showers without water, open taps, etc., - Etc. In addition, the rescue system devices are connected to the emergency services even in areas without coverage as devices are connected one to each other by GSM/GPRS, as previously mentioned. All that will significantly contribute to prevent future cases of drowning on beaches or in others bodies of water.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), in 2014, an estimated 359.000 people died from drowning, making drowning a major public health problem worldwide. Injuries account for over 9% of total global mortality. Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury death, accounting for 7% of all injury-related deaths. The global burden and death from drowning is found in all economies and regions, so drowning must be considered a relevant worldwide problem. This new water rescue system has been developed to contribute to prevent cases of drowning on beaches or in others bodies of water around the world. The new water rescue system consists of a solid structure screwed to a concrete slab that contains a life-saving harness attached to a 300-metre cable rolled on a spool which can be winched in with an electric motor remotely operated from the water or directly from the system on the beach. This device can be installed on beaches, rivers or other body of water ensuring that any person (including Emergency Medical Services –EMS– personnel) taking part in a rescue will be able to get back to shore safely and increasing the chance to save the life of the person in danger. The installation of this patented water rescue system has a great social value because it provides a high degree of safety on beaches or in others bodies of water (i.e. rivers, lakes, etc). Furthermore: - It guarantees the life of the rescuer, by maintaining him permanently connected and tied to shore during the whole rescue process, - It allows to use the rescuer´s full physical capacity to reach the victim in the shortest time possible, without reserving anything for the return, - The rescuer and the victim are automatic and mechanically towed back to the beach by the device, - The return to the shore is fast as the motor winches the cable at a constant speed of 5 feet per second, - It allows the rescue of two or three victims at the same time, - The return to the shore by mechanical means allows the rescuer to recover and regain strength and ensure a high quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), - It implements the new concept of "Smart Beach", as the rescue system devices are connected one to each other by GSM/GPRS and to the emergency services, integrating in this way a network of advanced services just in the beachfront. Besides, the rescue system devices can be connected to others such as intelligent buoys, weather stations, sensors, smart bracelets, etc, - It is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, - It is adaptable since it can be installed on any beach or other body of water in the world, - It is reliable as, once installed, transmits tranquility and confidence to swimmers, and also provide an innovative, modern and safe image on the beaches or others bodies of water. Thus, it will reassure tourists from home or abroad that beaches or other bodies of water are safe and up-to-date, where they can really relax. -It complements other existing life saving products (goods and services) such as watchtowers, floating elements like boats, board or jets, aid stations, etc. With several water rescue devices already installed in some beaches of Spain, the company is currently facing the internationalization stage. To achieve this process the company is looking for partners to commercialize this patented system in the European single market and overseas. For that purpose it offers license or distribution services agreements.

The national patent was applied for on the 1st march 2012, and the international one on the 21st February 2013. On the 30th April 2013 the company received notification of the international search report, and the written opinion of the body responsible was that the “the invention is new, involves an inventive step and has industrial applications. (art. 33 (2-3-4) PCT)“.

The company is looking for either an industrial partner or local distributor partners. With the first type of partner the company wish to reach a license agreement in order to manufacture and market the water rescue system. The capacity and expertise of this industrial partner must be suitable for the manufacture of this product. The provision of a consolidated sales network or strong relationships with distributors specialized in selling rescue equipments will be also a crucial key to sign a license agreement. With the second type of partners the company wish to reach distribution agreements in order to market the water rescue system. This distributors must be specialized in selling rescue equipment to private and, specially, public customers, and must have a good knowledge of their local markets.
